Obituary for Irving V. Joy Jr.

Irving V.  Joy Jr.
The Lord has opened arms on Friday, June 1, 2018 to welcome Irving into the realm of those who have gone before, leaving those left here touched by loss. Irving was born May 2, 1934 in Bangor the youngest child of Dorothy M. Joy and Irving V. Joy. His siblings included; Martha Howland, James D. Howland, Phyllis M. H. Smith, Rev. Leslie Howland, Verna M. Parks, Alfred Merlin Joy and Bernard Irving Joy.
He was predeceased by his son, Irving V. Joy III.
He is survived by his companion in marriage, travels, and military life of 64 years Barbara N. (Sanborn) Joy. Survivors also include his son Jason Raymond Joy of Sunnyvale, CA.; daughter-in-law, Teresa Joy; niece Rebecca Sanborn, niece Cherie Weed and family; nephew, Norman Sanborn and family; sister-in-law, Beverly Sanborn; grandchildren; Patrick Joy and his wife April, Ellen Joy, William Joy; great grandchildren, Max Joy, Alex Joy, Sirus Joy, Leah Byram, and Logan Joy; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Irving served in the U.S. Air Force from ’53 to’70. He also retired from the Air National Guard in Bangor.
Irving was a member of Rising Virtue Lodge #10 A.F. & A. M. of Bangor and the Millwee Chapter #198 Order of the Eastern Star of Orrington.
He graduated from Bangor High School in the wonderful class of ’53, the members of which have been a support and are deserving of thanks. He was a golfer and ham radio enthusiast. Irving loved his camp, his dogs, Hattie and Mattie, and could fix anything he put his mind to. Irving was kind, considerate and easy to like. The hole he leaves in the fabric of our lives can only be partially filled with our memories of him. Ham Radio KC1FXD 73.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7 pm. Wednesday June 6, 2018 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor, where the Millwee Chapter, OES and Rising Virtue Lodge #10 will conduct memorial services at 6 pm. Wednesday.
A memorial service will be held 11 am. Thursday June 7, 2018 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Pastor Gretchen Casey, of Grace United Methodist Church, Bangor, officiating, followed by military honors.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., immediately following the services, Thursday.
