Obituary for Kathleen Maura Davis

Kathleen “Kate” Davis passed away January 6, 2018, just two days after her 56th birthday. Kate had an unexpectedly brief, but very courageous battle with cancer that she fought with great resilience and determination.
She was the Executive Director of Community Care, a non-profit human service agency located in Bangor, Maine.

Born January 4, 1962, in Warwick, R.I., she was the daughter of Dr. William Davis and Mary Davis.

Kate graduated from Brewer High School in 1980. She received Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Lesley University and an MSW from the University of Maine.

Kate committed her entire adult life to advocating for the marginalized, vulnerable, and oppressed members of our society. She began her career by following her passion for working with children with disabilities and demonstrated her remarkable leadership abilities at a young age, becoming the Director of Camp Capella at the age of 19.

When Kate recognized injustice, discrimination, and inequality, whether it be children and families living in poverty, women who experienced discrimination in their personal lives and in their work, or members of the LGBTQ community, she fought tirelessly to advocate for their just and fair treatment.

Kate had so much love to give and she shared it freely with her family, friends, colleagues, and the children and families with whom she worked.
She was an intelligent, thoughtful, and very compassionate person who consistently made every effort to avoid public or professional attention. She never sought the spotlight, choosing rather to place the focus and attention on her colleagues and her staff.

Kate leaves her father, Dr. William Davis, sister, Beth Davis-Spencer and husband, Carl, brother, Paul Davis, all of Brewer and Dr. Sheila Davis from Hull, Massachusetts.
She also leaves her two very special nieces whom she loved so very much--Maizey Spencer of Brewer, and Eva O’Brien currently living in Haiti. Both Eva and Maizey were Kate’s “joys” and they will always treasure their “Aunt Kate” Date” memories.

Kate was predeceased by her loving mother Mary Louise (Spearman) Davis.

Her family would like to express sincere thanks to the compassionate nurses, doctors, and staff at EMMC’s Grant 6 East--especially Debbie, Whitney, Tori, Brenda, Sandy, Tiffany, and Dr. Tan.

At Kate’s request services will be private for the immediate family only.

For those who wish to honor the memory of Kate, please consider making a contribution, in her memory to Community Care, the agency that she led and served with passion and pride as the Executive Director for over 20 years.
